Chapter 13

I was still worried that Mimic might keep me on the ground with her for longer than was alright, but I was right to have faith in her. We only rested—well, cuddled, for about another fifteen minutes before she decided that it was time we should get up and get back to work, and so we did.

And after exploring the cave a bit more, we came across something that would offer higher rewards for slightly higher risks.

A giant hole.

The in-the-ground kind of hole. As in, while going lower into the cave system, we came across a massive pit in the ground that reached so far down that the bottom of it wasn’t visible until I tried throwing a torch down there. The torch fell for a good while, too, before hitting the ground and breaking since that could apparently happen when throwing torches in this half-game half-realistic world.

“It’d take too long to try and mine a way down, and building our way down would be tricky, but… I do have a decent amount of rope in my inventory.” I looked down at the bottom and then at Mimic. “Let’s try something first.”

With a curious tilt of her head, Mimic followed me as we went back into the previous room with a decent rate of monster spawns.

I created a little platform up on the wall high enough that I couldn’t reach it from the ground by building some stairs up to it, and then I placed rope hanging down from it.

“Mimic, can you hang from this rope?” I asked.

Mimic looked the rope over before walking up to it and climbing onto it just as anybody could.

A giant ant started approaching us, which Mimic wanted to go and kill going by the look on her face, but I said, “Wait. Stay there. Now, is it possible for you to reach a limb out to go attack that ant from where you are? Without getting off the rope?”

And now she looked like a lightbulb just appeared over her head before creating a long, thin tentacle that shot out from her left shoulder with a sharpened fang at the end of it. The tentacle flew through the air and went straight into the ant’s head, instantly killing it.

“I think you just got even more OP, Mimic. Stay there.”

With that, I went and ran around a bit until I attracted a few different monsters onto me. Two slimes and another ant. I brought them all back to where Mimic was and shouted, “Try making three tentacles to hit them all at once!”

Mimic’s body shrunk due to having to split up her available mass enough to do that, but she created three tentacles that all shot toward their targets simultaneously.

Not only could Mimic attack from a distance, but she could attack multiple targets at once seeing as how they all died at the same time.

That sounded insanely OP, and it was. The only real drawback was that they weren’t really ranged attacks. Those tentacles were all still part of Mimic.
